High Pressure Sewer Cleaning – Wonthaggi & Inverloch

Wednesday, May 13th, 2020

South Gippsland Water will be using specialist cleaning devices to maintain reliable sewerage services and minimise sewer blockages and spills.

Managing Director Philippe du Plessis said that customer feedback has been clear that reliable services are paramount, particularly when it comes to managing sewerage systems.

“Starting this week, a sewer jetting program will help clear problematic sections of sewer, these essential works will help keep sewers flowing.”

“High pressure hoses will be used to break down blockages and clear sewer pipes to remove potential blockages before problems occur.”

Contractors GMA Environmental will be conducting the sewer cleaning program across network ‘hotspots’ in Wonthaggi and Inverloch. The works involve using specialised trucks with high pressure cleaning equipment to dislodge partial sewer blockages.

Customers are reminded to only flush the 3 P’s; Pee, Poo and (loo) Paper.

“Often the blockages are caused by the wrong things being washed into the sewer, such as; cooking fats/oils, wet wipes being flushed or tree roots infiltrating the sewer pipes”, said Mr du Plessis.

The cleaning program should not interrupt services to the community.  Every effort will be made to minimise any inconvenience to customers and the general public. Some 160 notices have been distributed across Wonthaggi’s CBD which will be the first area targeted from Monday 11th May 2020.

Customers with queries regarding the work are welcome to contact South Gippsland Water’s Customer Service and Faults line on 1300 851 636.
