Water Supply & Quality Incidents

Update: 12.30pm Thursday 30th October 2014

Leongatha Water Supply System

South Gippsland Water is currently experiencing discoloured water within the Leongatha Water Supply System following an unplanned water supply interruption. Customers may experience periods of cloudy or brown coloured water.

South Gippsland Water will commence a program of flushing to remove sediments and discoloured water from the system. However until the discoloured water can be removed from the system, customers may continue to experience brown or cloudy coloured water.

South Gippsland Water recommends that customers do not wash light or white coloured clothes, as the sediments within the water can cause staining to clothes when in contact with oxidising laundry detergents.

Once South Gippsland Water has flushed the system, customers may also wish to flush their own properties. This can be done after 5pm 30/10/2014, by turning on an outside tap at the rear of the property and running the water for a few minutes, to draw any discoloured water through the internal plumbing.

It is anticipated that all water supplies will be rectified this afternoon and flushing completed by 5pm, Thursday 30th October 2014. Should customers continue to experience dirty or discoloured water into Friday 31/10/2014, they are encouraged to notify South Gippsland Water.
