Water quality monitoring
South Gippsland Water is committed to delivering safe, high-quality water.
We closely monitor water quality through all stages of collection, treatment, storage, and distribution to your home. Online sensors continually track important water quality indicators. Many are programmed to trigger alarms and automatically shut down treatment processes if operating limits are exceeded.
Our trained water treatment plant operators oversee these systems to ensure online analysers are functioning correctly and to make any necessary adjustments to treatment processes.
In addition to real-time monitoring, we collect water samples from across our supply systems on a weekly basis. These samples are independently tested by an accredited external laboratory, with the results being assessed against strict water quality standards. This process ensures compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act 2003, which is administered by the Department of Health, Victoria.
