South Gippsland Water is proud to announce the latest recipients of its Community Resilience Grants program, supporting projects that strengthen connection, wellbeing and preparedness across our region.

When a routine water sample detected potential bacterial contamination within the Fish Creek system earlier this year, a Boil Water Advisory was issued as a safety measure to ensure drinking water remained safe. While the advisory was precautionary, it played an important role in protecting community health by preventing potential contamination while water quality testing was being carried out.

As part of our commitment to customers and service standards, the lifting of a Boil Water Advisory triggers a $10,000 community grant, recognising the community’s cooperation during that time.

“By supporting locally led initiatives, South Gippsland Water aims to empower communities to stay connected, prepared and supported—particularly during times of uncertainty or disruption,” explained South Gippsland Water Managing Director, Robert Murphy.

“Our decision to issue a Boil Water Advisory wasn’t one we took lightly. We know the effects it has on our community, from businesses to individual households, and to our workforce. This grant is an integral part of our response to the incident and others like it.”

The Community Resilience Grant was open to all not-for-profit community groups and organisations in Fish Creek. The successful applicants were:

Fish Creek Kindergarten – Community pathway for wellbeing

Fish Creek Kindergarten was awarded funding to design and create an interactive community pathway at its entrance. This inclusive space will welcome children, families and visitors while celebrating the identity of Fish Creek.

Buckley Park Community Farm – Maintaining our water filters and drip-line watering system

Funding will help replace annual water filters and update drip-line fittings to ensure a reliable, efficient water supply for both established and expanding garden beds. The improvements will strengthen the farm’s ability to grow fresh, affordable produce for the community.

Fish Creek Community Development Group – Kitted Up: Fire, Flood and Storm Ready

Funding helped deliver a community preparedness dinner in partnership with local emergency services. The event provided residents with practical information on fire, flood and storm readiness while offering a free catered meal to ensure inclusive participation.

South Gippsland Water congratulates all successful applicants and acknowledges the vital contribution each project will make in building stronger, more connected and more resilient communities.
