A major infrastructure project to strengthen water supply reliability across South Gippsland has reached a significant milestone, with construction of a new 4.5 megalitre Clear Water Storage (CWS) tank at the Lance Creek Water Treatment Plant now complete.
The project forms a key part of South Gippsland Water’s ongoing investment in maintaining reliable water services for communities supplied by the Lance Creek system during periods of high demand and continued population growth.
The new storage tank will support supply reliability for customers in Inverloch, Cape Paterson, Wonthaggi, Korumburra, Poowong, Loch and Nyora, as well as the Kilcoy Abattoir in Lance Creek.
Managing Director Robert Murphy said the project was an important investment in the region’s future water security.
“This new clear water storage tank is a critical addition to the Lance Creek system and will help ensure we continue delivering reliable water services to our growing communities,” Mr Murphy said.
“Demand across the region continues to increase, particularly during peak periods, and this project will strengthen our ability to maintain service standards for customers now and into the future.”
The project was approved through South Gippsland Water’s 2023 Price Submission as part of broader planning to ensure the region’s water infrastructure keeps pace with growth and customer demand.
The $7.8 million total project budget included design, development, project management and construction. Key milestones included completion of the tank foundation, base, walls, major connecting pipelines and roof structure.
Mr Murphy acknowledged the efforts of all project partners involved in delivering the important infrastructure upgrade.
