Mock Emergency Tests Water Policy and Procedures

Monday, June 25th, 2018

Last week South Gippsland Water held its annual mock emergency exercise where staff were put through their paces to test emergency management policies, and procedures.  Held each year, the Corporation models a different scenario that has the potential to impact water or sewer services and the communities serviced by the Corporation.

This year’s emergency scenario looked at what challenges the Corporation would face if there was a state-wide extended power outage, coupled with extreme weather and fire danger.  The exercise was attended by staff from Department of Environment Land Water and Planning (DELWP) and was conducted under the principles and guidelines of the Australasian Inter-service Incident Management System.

Managing Director Philippe du Plessis said that, “Conducting these emergency exercises is great practice, it helps staff from across the business to be prepared and well trained in order to respond in the event of an incident or emergency.  Having representatives from DELWP on hand ensures that our teams are getting feedback on best practice from across the industry”.
