Rehabilitating Poowong Water Treatment Plant site

Wednesday, April 21st, 2021

South Gippsland Water is decommissioning the old Poowong Water Treatment Plant, on the Drouin-Korumburra Road.

Poowong has been connected to the Lance Creek Water Treatment supply system, as part of the larger Lance Creek Water Connection Project, completed in 2018.

This means the Poowong Water Treatment Plant is no longer in use.

South Gippsland Water Managing Director Philippe du Plessis said the plan was to rehabilitate and landscape the site to make it safe.

“Works will get underway around 10 May, and we expect them to take around 10 weeks,” he said.

“There will be no impact to Poowong’s water supply. However, some residents may hear some normal construction noise during the works or see increased truck traffic on local roads.”

“We will endeavour to minimise this by only working on the site during business hours.”

Mr du Plessis said the works included removing mechanical and electrical equipment to make the site safe, demolishing ageing infrastructure associated with the site and landscaping.
