Storage and Rainfall Update

Rainfall recorded at South Gippsland Water’s storages from 6^th – 13^th July 2018 was Lance Creek 35mm, Ruby Creek 33mm, Coalition Creek 30mm, Deep Creek 35mm, Little Bass 42mm and Battery Creek 20mm.

South Gippsland Water’s Managing Director, Philippe du Plessis said, “Our region has had a good start to July; rainfall and inflows to catchments have resulted in five out of six of our storages now sitting between 78-100% of capacity.

“With last week’s rain, storage levels for the Ruby Creek system (supplying Leongatha and surrounds) increased from 58% to 63%; this is encouraging but we will continue to monitor this system closely.”

“Storage levels on the Coalition Creek supply system caused us concern in the first half of the year, but we were pleased to lift water restrictions for Korumburra last week. This decision was made due to recent rainfall and the added security of water supply from the new Lance Creek Water Connection pipeline expected before the height of next summer.”

According to Mr du Plessis construction of the Lance Creek Water Connection pipeline, which will supply Korumburra, Poowong, Loch and Nyora with a reliable water supply from the Lance Creek Water Treatment Plant, is forging ahead.

“The laying of pipe on both the Lance Creek to Korumburra and the Korumburra to Poowong sections of the project is 95% complete. New pump stations and the installation of infrastructure to enhance water treatment processes at the Lance Creek and Korumburra treatment plants are well underway, and pressure testing of completed sections of pipeline has proven successful.”
