Storage and Rainfall Update

Monday, February 3rd, 2020

There was no rainfall recorded at South Gippsland Water’s storages from 25 January 2020 to 31 January 2020.

Total rainfall recorded for the month of January was Lance Creek 71mm, Ruby Creek 88mm, Deep Creek 122mm and Battery Creek 112mm.

South Gippsland Water’s Managing Director, Philippe du Plessis said that, “Patches of decent rainfall over the month has kept storages at reasonable levels throughout January.  However, the heatwave conditions keep pressure on water supply systems. Customer’s water conservation efforts have assisted in reservoirs across the region remaining at satisfactory levels”.

South Gippsland Water, in association with Choose Tap, have launched a program to assist community members on private water supplies experiencing smoke tainted tank water. The program, “Be a Refiller” is encouraging businesses and individuals to refill water containers at various locations.  Businesses and community spaces are encouraged to register their tap as refill points, whilst the community is encouraged to refill bottles and water containers up to 10 litres, rather than purchase bottled water. All participating businesses will be registered on the choosetap.com.au “Refiller –map”.

South Gippsland Water Refiller points are located at:

  • South Gippsland Water Foster Office             14 – 18 Pioneer Street
  • South Gippsland Water Leongatha Office     17 Cusack Road

The Corporation keeps a close eye on water quality across the reticulated water supply systems. Water supplied by South Gippsland Water to townships via these systems is treated to Safe Drinking Water Standards and monitored on a daily basis. “Allowing water containers to be refilled from South Gippsland Water reticulated supplies at a range of points across the region is a more environmentally friendly option to purchasing bottled water” Mr du Plessis said today.

Any customers who have questions or concerns regarding their water supply can contact South Gippsland Water’s friendly Customer Service Team on 1300 851 636.
