Storage & Rainfall Update

Monday, August 28th, 2017

Rainfall was recorded at South Gippsland Water’s storages from 19th – 25th August 2017. Lance Creek 45mm, Ruby Creek 24mm, Coalition Creek 42mm, Deep Creek 42mm, Little Bass 66mm and Battery Creek 25mm.

Over the past weeks all systems have now fully replenished except that of Leongatha, the Ruby Creek systems still sits well below total capacity.  Ruby Creek has received over 100ML inflow over the last week, but is still well down on total capacity at only 65% and as a result, South Gippsland Water’s Managing Director, Philippe du Plessis has today warned that, “there is potential for spring time water restrictions for Leongatha if the coming weeks do not provide significant inflows to refill the reservoirs for this system”.

This follows last week’s warning that “The Ruby Creek system is taking longer to fill as it has a relatively small catchment area in relation to the size of its reservoirs. With low rainfall in May and June, the catchment did not yield the expected volume of water and the system is still catching up.”
