Storage, River Flow and Rainfall Update

Monday, May 6th, 2019

Rainfall recorded at South Gippsland Water’s storages during the week of 27th April – 3rd May 2019 was Lance Creek 36mm, Ruby Creek 28mm, Deep Creek 18mm and Battery Creek 37mm.

Total rainfall recorded for the month of April 2019 was Lance Creek 72mm, Ruby Creek 43mm, Deep Creek 68mm and Battery Creek 82mm.

South Gippsland Water’s Managing Director, Philippe du Plessis said, “Good rainfall across the region last week has started to refresh dry catchments and has resulted in reservoir storage levels remaining unchanged despite the week’s draw-down for water supply.”

“We are particularly pleased that the Ruby Creek system, which supplies Leongatha, Leongatha South and Koonwarra, and the Battery Creek system, supplying Fish Creek, are remaining steady.

In the east of the region, the Tarra River catchment received much less rainfall. Flow in the river is currently within range for extraction to supply Yarram, Devon North, Alberton and Port Albert to continue.

Staff will continue to monitor river levels and provide regular flow/pumping status updates via the South Gippsland Water website and the Tarra River flows sign outside the Water Treatment Plant at Devon North. Property owners on the Tarra River with a ‘Supply Agreement’ arrangement can also contact South Gippsland Water to sign-up for SMS notifications relating to extraction status.

Across the region, all customers are requested to ensure they are following the Permanent Water Saving Rules which are in place all year round. The top three rules to remember are:

1) Water during the cool – Between 6pm and 10am

2) Sweep, don’t hose – Hosing hard surfaces such as paths and driveways is not permitted

3) Install trigger nozzles – All outdoor hoses are required to be leak free and fitted with trigger nozzles

Any customers who have questions or concerns regarding their water supply can contact South Gippsland Water’s friendly Customer Service Team on 1300 851 636.
